Mixed fortunes


I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to the first champions at the French this year: Bob Bryan and Tennis Talk, Anyone? French fave Victoria Azarenka, who took the mixed title. Bob and his brother Mike have racked up many a Major mixed title over the years, while this is the first big one for Azarenka. Congrats to the pair, who only decided to play at the last minute!

*A note: It's been called to my attention this is Azarenka's second major, having won the U.S. Open mixed last year. The explanation's in the comments field. Thanks mjgrace22!

Actually, this is Azarenka's second mixed GS title having won with Max Mirnyi at the US Open last year.

I hope this gives her more confidence for her single game so she could make a breakthrough at Wimbledon or at Flushing Meadows later this year. She has so much potential but a lot of her rivals during her junior days have already passed her by in the rankings.

Thanks mjgrace22, you're totally right! I really thought she was going to go a round further in the draw, with a good chance to get to the semifinals. And you're right, maybe she could use this as a springboard.
